Happy Anniversary to the National Book Chamber of the Republic of Moldova!
Today, March 17, we mark a historic journey of over seven decades dedicated to the written word. Since its founding in 1950, the National Book Chamber of the Republic of Moldova has become the central pillar of the national library system, ensuring the preservation and record-keeping of the country’s entire editorial heritage. From the first manual record cards to today’s complex databases, our institution has constantly evolved to meet the challenges of the information age.
On this anniversary, we reaffirm our mission to implement international standards in bibliographic control and to provide the research community with access to the nation’s cultural treasury. Seventy-six years represent thousands of registered titles, generations of trained specialists, and a continuous responsibility toward the future of the book. We take great pride in our role in assigning international standard codes (ISBN, ISSN, ISMN) and maintaining the legal deposit – the fundamental guarantee that no publication will ever be forgotten.
We extend our gratitude to authors, publishers, and librarians for the close collaboration that makes this noble mission possible. We look forward to the future with confidence, continuing the process of digitalizing and modernizing our services while remaining steadfast in the service of culture.
